About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading Main Contractor on a freelance basis, working on a school’s project based in Basingstoke.

The role will focus on developing, managing, and coordinating mechanical building services design from concept through to completion, ensuring compliance with standards and delivering efficient, robust solutions for an education environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee the development of mechanical design solutions for the school’s project.
• Coordinate design activities with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Review and approve technical submissions, drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with building regulations, sustainability standards, and project requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to the delivery team and resolve design challenges.
• Support the project through to handover, with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.

Requirements:

• Extensive experience as a Senior Mechanical DesignEngineer, ideally within education or public-sector projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, hot & cold water, and building services design standards.
• Previous experience working for or with a Main Contractor is highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage workload independently and deliver to tight deadlines.

Contract Details:

• Freelance
• £400 per day.
• 6-month contract with potential for extension.
