An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate Endoscopy Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join an Independent Healthcare Provider within their specialist Endoscopy team in Bath, Somerset. Our client is seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused individual to contribute to the delivery of high-quality endoscopic services within a dynamic and supportive environment. This role offers the chance to work within a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in patient care and continuous professional development.

Job Description

As a key member of the Endoscopy Unit, you will play a crucial role in the provision of safe, effective, and person-centred care to all patients undergoing endoscopic and associated procedures. You will assist in maintaining the highest clinical and professional standards, supporting both patients and colleagues throughout all stages of care.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering exceptional nursing or clinical care during endoscopic procedures, ensuring patient comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
  • Providing skilled technical assistance to clinicians during diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  • Assisting in the care, maintenance, and management of specialist endoscopic equipment and ensuring full compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Contributing to the operational management of the unit, including coordination of day-to-day activities and promoting efficient patient flow.
  • Supporting the department’s adherence to JAG (Joint Advisory Group) accreditation standards.
  • Taking responsibility for triaging and pre-assessing patients to confirm suitability for procedures.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior team members and student nurses, encouraging professional development and acting as a positive role model.
  • Effectively communicating with patients, relatives, and carers with empathy and clarity, ensuring a thorough understanding of procedures and care pathways.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will be a registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with a passion for delivering outstanding care. You will possess strong clinical knowledge, technical competence, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a multidisciplinary setting.

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Right to work in the UK (No sponsorship available)
  • Proven post-registration experience within Endoscopy or a relevant clinical setting.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently as required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and a patient-centred approach to care.
  • Understanding of national guidelines and standards relevant to endoscopy practice, including JAG accreditation.
  • Competency in patient triage, pre-assessment, and nurse-led consent.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Evidence of recent professional development or relevant endoscopy training courses.
