About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll work as part of a dedicated team providing tailored emotional, social, and academic support to pupils with additional needs.

You will:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, promoting emotional regulation and resilience.

  • Implement trauma-informed practices to create a safe, nurturing learning environment.

  • Support individuals and small groups with both learning and social development.

  • Use de-escalation strategies and consistent routines to manage challenging behaviour.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to deliver holistic support plans.

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement in learning.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, term time only.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.

  • Knowledgeable and confident in applying trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches.

  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient — able to stay calm under pressure.

  • Adaptable and collaborative, with excellent communication skills.

  • Committed to helping every pupil build confidence and achieve their full potential.

Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.

  • Have relevant experience supporting pupils with SEMH or complex behavioural needs.

  • Demonstrate a compassionate and professional approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
