Interim Risk Officer
  • Daily Rate: £350 - £450 (Inside IR35 via Umbrella)
  • Location: Bedford, Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote)
  • Contract Duration: 6 months initially

We are seeking an Interim Risk Officer to support our Risk Leads in the effective management and analysis of functional/operational and change risks across the organisation. This role is crucial for supporting the Corporate Director of Risk and will involve close collaboration with team members and stakeholders throughout the organisation.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Collaborate with risk owners to manage risk mitigation activities in response to organisational risks.
  • Maintain and assist in the implementation of internal audit report recommendations and findings.
  • Facilitate the regular review of local and centralised risk registers throughout the organisation.
  • Manage internal audit and incident data inputs, facilitating the resolution of themes and issues.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the organisation for the promotion of best practice risk management.
  • Support Risk Leads in delivering risk workshops and mentor users in the use of risk management software.
  • Manage data in analytical tools including MS Excel and organisational risk management systems.
  • Produce data insights with spreadsheets and pivot tables, and provide support to risk owners on management of risk registers and risk mitigation actions.
  • Provide input into Management and Board level reports including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience of risk management processes and practices in either first or second line.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Proficiency with all standard MS Office applications, particularly advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Preferably experience in Power BI.
  • Ability to analyse complex data, identify insights, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to management.
  • Good understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model and risk appetite.
  • Experience of internal audit programs.
  • Some experience working in public sector
Desirable:
  • Experience/understanding of public sector procurements and service provision.
  • Experience developing and delivering training material in a remote environment.
  • Experience of working with risk management software applications.
  • Experience of working in an MS SharePoint analytic environment.
  • Use of statistical techniques for data analysis.
