Our client is an award-winning design and manufacturing business and world leader in packaging innovation and technology providing innovative and creative sealing solutions to the biggest brands in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and personal care industries.

We are seeking a commercially astute and technically skilled Business Development Manager to build long-term customer partnerships and drive global sales.

The successful candidate will have an engineering background and a passion for sales and customer interactions. The role spans selling across our new machinery, significant upgrades and tailored contract packages. You will be able to identify bespoke capital equipment solutions tailored to complex needs.

You’ll visit customers, host site visits, and represent the business at key international events and trade shows.

With an in-depth sales process and longer sales cycle typical of bespoke machinery, success in this role requires exceptional relationship-building skills. You will work closely across departments to ensure that customer requirements are fully understood and translated into viable solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand customer technical requirements and identify appropriate, value driven solutions, considering both technical fit and commercial viability.
  • Build and maintain deep, long-term relationships with customers, guiding them throughout and following the sales process.
  • Be an excellent and articulate communicator and presenter, with the confidence to manage client meetings and negotiations and confident translating complex technical concepts into customer-friendly language.
  • Visit customer sites, host visits and represent the company at international packaging events.
  • Assess whether the customer requires bespoke development work and present proposals accordingly.
  • Progress business development by identifying and pursuing new customer opportunities in target markets.
  • Ensure successful handover to the relevant teams’ post-order, monitoring progress on key commercial projects and communicating with the customer.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • An engineering background is essential due to the technical nature of our solutions.
  • Proven experience within technical sales or bespoke capital machinery.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, long-cycle sales and maintain momentum over extended engagement periods.
  • Highly organised, proactive, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience with LinkedIn and digital customer engagement tools.
  • Able to travel internationally for customer visits and industry events.
