Drainage Engineer

Location: Bedford

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Drainage Engineer to join a growing consultancy in Bedford. You will support a varied portfolio of residential and mixed-use development projects, helping to deliver high quality drainage and flood risk solutions from planning through to detailed design. This is an ideal position for someone looking to develop quickly in a supportive and collaborative civil engineering team.

As a Drainage Engineer, you will prepare drainage strategies, contribute to flood risk assessments and support the technical development of layouts and masterplans. You will work closely with civil engineers, planners and external consultants, gaining valuable experience across multiple project stages. The role offers strong scope for progression, client interaction and technical growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce surface water and foul water drainage strategies for planning submissions.

  • Support the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments.

  • Model drainage networks using MicroDrainage or Flow.

  • Provide drainage input into site layouts and masterplanning.

  • Liaise with clients, third party consultants and council officers.

  • Work across multiple live projects, contributing to coordination and delivery.

About You

  • Degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering or a related discipline.

  • Good understanding of UK drainage standards, design guidance and best practice.

  • Skilled in MicroDrainage or Flow, AutoCAD or MicroStation and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience preparing drainage strategies or drainage design reports.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence in client interaction.

  • Proactive, organised and comfortable managing changing project demands.
