Graduate Flood Risk Engineer

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Flood Risk Engineer to join a growing consultancy in Bedford. This role is ideal for someone looking to start their career within an experienced flood risk and drainage team, working on a wide range of residential and mixed use development projects. You will gain hands on technical experience, structured support and a clear pathway for professional growth.

As a Graduate Flood Risk Engineer, you will support senior engineers with the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies while developing your skills in hydraulic modelling, site appraisal and report writing. You will contribute to the early stages of development design, helping deliver sustainable and compliant solutions for planning applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing Flood Risk Assessments for planning submissions.

  • Support the production of drainage strategy drawings and related documents.

  • Assist with hydraulic modelling and drainage calculations.

  • Contribute to technical reports, drawings and design information for planning.

  • Support site appraisals by reviewing flood mapping, ground conditions and planning constraints.

  • Liaise with internal teams and external consultants as required.

  • Assist with drainage design submissions for planning and discharge of conditions.

  • Provide general support to the engineering team across multiple live projects.

About You

  • Degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar CAD software.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good analytical and problem solving abilities.

  • Interest in flood risk, drainage and sustainable development.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Desirable: placement or internship experience, and familiarity with hydraulic modelling tools such as Causeway Flow.
