Powder Coating/Painting Operative

We have an exciting opportunity for a Powder Coating/Painting Operative based in Bedford for one of our clients on a full-time permanent basis.

Summary of the Powder Coating/Painting Operative role 

Salary: £15 - £17 per hour
Location: Bedford
Type of Contract: Temp to perm  
Hours: 40 hours, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Responsibilities of the Powder Coating/Painting Operative

• Prepare metalwork, including balconies, balustrades, staircases, railings, and gates for coating by cleaning, masking, and hanging components.
• Operate powder coating and wet spray equipment, ensuring correct application and finish.
• Inspect materials before coating to identify any defects or preparation issues.
• Mix and apply coatings according to job specifications.
• Carry out touch-ups, rework, and minor repairs where required.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area, following health and safety procedures.
• Work closely with the fabrication and finishing teams to meet production targets and delivery deadlines.

Requirements for a successful Powder Coating/Painting Operative

• Proven experience working in a powder coating or metal finishing environment.
• Previous experience handling steel fabrication products, such as staircases, balustrades, or railings preferred.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
• Knowledge of surface preparation, curing times, and different coating types.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, job sheets, and technical specifications.
• Physically fit and able to handle heavy or awkward metal components safely.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
• A positive, safety-conscious attitude and willingness to maintain high standards of workmanship.
