Toolmaker Required to work manufacturing company based in Kempston.
Summary
To produce new tools (moulds) to customer specifications and to maintain existing tools (moulds) to a satisfactory standard.
Making Tools
To produce a pattern / model of the required part out of a variety of materials (e.g. wood, modeling board, metals etc) to meet customer specifications, working from technical drawings, plastic or plywood templates or from existing foam samples.
- To produce a mould using wet lay or cast resin method.
- To carry out welding to finish mould when required.
- To fit pins, frames or other components into mould when needed.
- To finish mould, polishing by hand, ready for production.
- To apply paint or sealants where necessary.
Mould maintenance
To repair moulds either in place on the track or in the workshop as required.
To make alterations to moulds when requested by Production.
Where Production experience problems, to diagnose the cause of the problem and make the necessary alterations to rectify the problem.
General
To liaise with the Sales Department regarding new product develop and provide input for the purpose of quoting for new tools.
To have a good understanding of tool manufacturing.
To maintain tooling workshop area to the required standard of tidiness and cleanliness.
To maintain safe working practices and methods put in place for Health & Safety reasons.
To communicate and work effectively with other departments, in particular Production and Sales.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications
Sufficient on the job experience and/or formal training to produce patterns to required standard and timescale.
Ability to interpret technical drawings.
Ability to work with a variety of materials including wood, metals and resins (epoxy, polyurethane, polyester).
Skills and knowledge to safely operate a variety of tools and machinery, including saws, planes, lathes, mills and welding equipment.
Understanding and knowledge of safe working practices.
Knowledge and understanding of the Production process and the impact of tooling on this process.
Problem solving skills, able to identify problems and propose solutions in the production of new moulds and repair or adjustment of existing moulds.
Good communication skills, able to work effectively with others.
Hours
8.00am-4.30pm Monday to Friday
Pay
35,000 - 45,000 (Dependent on experience)
