Astute's Power Team are supporting a leading Waste Management Company to recruit a Maintenance Planner for a large Energy from Wate plant located in Bedfordshire.

The facility, which is now in its third full year of operations, provides a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 545,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and generates over 60 megawatts of low carbon energy - enough electricity to meet the needs of over 112,500 homes.

As a Maintenance Planner you will oversee the safe planning & coordination of all reactive & preventative maintenance activities on the plant as well as supporting the planning & delivery of outages / shutdowns and plant improvement projects.

Responsibilities and duties of the Maintenance Planner role
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing, maintaining and implementing the sites CMMS to plan and schedule maintenance for both short term and long-term maintenance work to ensure maximum plant availability
  • Improve efficiency by implementing new processes for maintenance scheduling and reporting focusing on continuous improvement methods
  • Assist with the planning of outages & shutdowns, allocating appropriate resource across multiple departments ensuring compliance with CDM requirements
  • Publishing work orders and creating weekly reports for site management
  • Ensure all work adheres to the sites code of practice, safety rules and maintenance strategy
  • Entering defects into the schedules in order to help maintain plant availability
  • Lead plant investigations utilising RCA / Root Cause Analysis and other maintenance strategies to improve availability & reliability
  • Attend daily meetings with the Operations & Maintenance Departments to discuss outstanding and future maintenance activities
  • Liaising with stores personnel & procurement to ensure parts are ordered from external suppliers
  • Manage the stores catalogue, ensuring stock is ordered in a timely manner
  • Run daily/weekly meetings as required to monitor and ensure successful completion of scheduled work


Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A minimum level 3 relevant engineering / technical qualification
  • Significant experience using a CMMS system such as SAP, Maximo
  • MS Project experience, or similar such as Primavera P6


Personal skills
The Maintenance Planner role would suit someone who has:

  • Previous experience in a heavy process engineering environment, this may have been gained in a Power Station (Energy from Waste, Coal, CCGT, Biomass, CHP, Nuclear etc), Chemical Plant, Steelworks, Refinery etc.
  • Ability to coordinate & allocate resource accordingly to business needs.
  • An understanding of Engineering issues on a large industrial plant
