Our client, a fast-growing residential developer, is seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support their commercial team across several new build housing schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable QS who is confident managing costs across multiple live sites and is looking for a rewarding mid-term contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee commercial and cost-control activities across new build residential projects
- Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cashflows
- Lead procurement, tendering, and subcontractor negotiations
- Conduct site valuations, measure works, and manage variations
- Produce and review interim applications, payment notices, and final accounts
- Collaborate closely with project managers and site teams to ensure cost efficiency
- Provide regular cost reporting to senior management
- Travel between the Bedford office and Norwich sites as required
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within residential new build (developer or contractor background)
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to operate autonomously and manage workload across multiple projects
- Willingness and ability to travel (Bedford-based with visits to Norwich sites)
- Immediate or short-notice availability preferred
- Own transport essential
