Quantity surveyor/Project manager - Central Bedfordshire - up to £55k depending on experience

Our client is the only development management consultancy specialising in bereavement design, planning, and development. They are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor with project management experience to join their team and help shape the future of the company. The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor within the business, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the development of diverse schemes ranging from £250k to £25m. You will be responsible for managing all costs associated with construction projects from initial estimates through to final accounts; working through all the RIBA Stages from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality. This role is an opportunity to work closely with their in -house planning and design teams as well as experienced external consultancy partners.

Experience & Qualifications

• A BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related field is essential.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in quantity surveying or cost consulting within the construction industry.

• Experience in a project management role is desirable.

• Strong knowledge of construction industry practise, regulations, and standards.

• Quantity Surveying within a UK based construction industry or developer setting.

• In-depth knowledge of JCT contracts is essential.

• Proficiency in cost estimation techniques and relevant software tools.

• Demonstrated success in delivering complex projects on time and within budget constraints.

• Exceptional negotiation abilities and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, schedule of rates, and budgets based on project specifications and drawing packages. Consider material prices, labour costs, equipment rental, permits and other expenses to develop accurate financial forecasting.

• Develop tender documents and contracts in collaboration with architects, engineers, and in house and external project managers.

• Oversee ongoing construction projects by monitoring costs against budget.

• Attend regular site visits to assess progress and ensure compliance with quality standards.

• Negotiate with supplier and subcontractors to secure best prices and terms for materials and services required for the project.

• Identifying value engineering opportunities that can enhance project outcomes while reducing costs without compromising quality; and advising the client accordingly.

• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions related to the project; and prepare interim valuations, variations, claims and final accounts as required.

• Identify potential risks associated with cost overruns or delays and advice on risk mitigation strategies to stakeholders.

• Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to optimise project outcomes; facilitating communication between parties involved in the project to resolve any disputes effectively.

• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project costs, progress updates, and any variances from the original budget.
