About the Role:

We are seeking a non-teaching SENCO to join the Senior Leadership Team and provide strategic leadership of our special educational needs provision. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring students with additional needs are fully supported and able to thrive both academically and emotionally in the education and training sector.

This Kempston school is an independent SEMH special school for up to 50 pupils aged 8-18, offering a nurturing environment for children and young people who have been disengaged from mainstream education. With a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and personalised support, we strive to provide an enriching experience for students-and a healthier work/life balance for staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of the SEN policy and provision across the school
  • Maintain oversight of provision for pupils with SEN or disabilities, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Manage Annual Reviews and transition/destination planning
  • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation with a focus on SEN provision
  • Collaborate with local authority SEN teams, psychologists, social care professionals, and external agencies
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students in line with statutory guidance and school policies

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential
  • Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete within 3 years of appointment, in line with the SEND Code of Practice)
  • Experience with self-evaluation, development planning, and leading training/INSET
  • Full UK driving licence - realiable commute to Kempston.
