Astutes Power Team are working with a leading independent waste to energy company with two power stations located on the Thames Estuary. The combined facilities are capable of processing around1.5 million tonnes of waste per year, producing over 120MW of power for the local area.

As the Permit Office Technician you will be responsible for supporting the Permit Office Coordinator with the day to day operations across both facilities within the Permit Office which includes planning outages, carrying out plant isolations, managing site consumables and reviewing work procedures and risk assessments.

The role will also require assistance to the day shift operations with the activities associated to the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Responsibilities and duties of the Permit Office Technician role:
Reporting to the Permit Office Co-ordinator , you will be responsible for:

  • Responsible for loading and offloading of consumable material supply and waste product disposal.
  • Assisting with the day to day operations within the plants Permit Office.
  • Assisting with the planning, execution and completion of plant outages.
  • Carry out mechanical & low voltage isolations as directed by the Senior Authorised Person.
  • Monitor & manage the sites consumable stock including material supply and waste bi-product disposal in accordance with plant demand.
  • Assist with day shift operations to ensure the safe & efficient operation of the plant.
  • Carry out maintenance & safety checks on plant, equipment and site vehicles.
  • Operate mobile plant when required.
  • Carrying out reviews of work procedures and risk assessments.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following desirable, but not essential qualifications:

  • Engineering / Technical Apprenticeship
  • Qualification in an Engineering/Operational Discipline (City & Guilds/NVQ/ONC/HNC)
  • It would be advantageous to be qualified with an IOSH in Health & Safety, but not a requirement
  • Certified to use mobile plant


Personal skills
The Permit Office Technician role would suit someone who has:

  • Familiar with the Waste to Energy process or similar industry
  • Able to carry out LV & Mechanical isolations
  • Competent in reading & interrogating P&ID's / SLDS.
  • Competent with Permit to Work systems
