Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Housing Options Officer to join our Housing team. The successful applicant will provide timely, effective, and customer-focused housing advice on a wide range of issues, including statutory homelessness, relationship breakdown, mortgage arrears, and landlord and tenant disputes. You will play a vital role in supporting our statutory homelessness duties and delivering effective housing solutions to those in need.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality housing advice and assistance to customers on a broad range of housing issues.

  • Process homelessness applications in line with current legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the Housing Act 1996 (Part VII).

  • Assess eligibility, priority need, and homelessness status, ensuring all decisions comply with statutory requirements and local policies.

  • Develop and monitor Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) in collaboration with applicants and relevant support services.

  • Offer advice and support to prevent homelessness, including assistance with tenancy sustainment, mortgage arrears, and relationship breakdown.

  • Work collaboratively with landlords, housing associations, statutory services, and other partners to secure appropriate housing solutions.

  • Respond to general housing enquiries from members of the public and stakeholders, both face-to-face and through written and electronic correspondence.

  • Use IT systems to maintain accurate records, process applications, and manage casework efficiently.

  • Provide exceptional customer service in all interactions, ensuring a sensitive and respectful approach to those in housing crisis.

  • Keep up to date with relevant housing legislation, policies, and best practice.



Person Specification:



Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in applying homelessness legislation and case law.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with external partners to prevent and relieve homelessness.

  • Experience working in a housing or homelessness environment, with a solid understanding of statutory requirements and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and sensitively.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a demanding workload and meet deadlines.
