Science Teacher - Pupil Referral Unit - Permanent Role Starting January

Are you a passionate and resilient Science Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity in a specialist setting? Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South Manchester to recruit a dedicated Science Teacher for a permanent position starting in January. This is a full-time teaching role delivering Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 to students who have experienced barriers to mainstream education. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that support both academic progress and personal development, with a strong focus on practical learning and differentiated teaching strategies.

This Manchester-based PRU provides high-quality alternative education for secondary-aged pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools. The school offers a nurturing and structured environment, with small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio to ensure personalised support. The PRU is committed to helping students re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve meaningful qualifications. Staff work collaboratively with external agencies, families, and mainstream schools to support reintegration where possible. The school has a strong leadership team, excellent facilities for practical science, and a culture of high expectations and mutual respect.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching Science at KS3 and KS4
  • A strong understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and behaviour management strategies
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding
  • Flexibility, resilience, and a proactive approach to teaching
