As a Part-Time Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 2-19 who have severe to profound learning difficulties, many of whom also have additional needs such as physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and autistic spectrum conditions. You will work as part of a skilled, multidisciplinary team to deliver a rich, functional, and communicative curriculum focused on independence, personal autonomy, life skills, and social relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the class teacher in delivering highly personalised activities aligned with pupils' individual education plans.
- Support pupils' communication using a Total Communication approach.
- Facilitate development of life skills such as self-care, social interaction, and leisure activities.
- Provide physical, sensory, and mobility support where required.
- Promote independence, confidence, and personal autonomy for all learners.
About You
- Experience or interest in special educational needs is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassion, patience, and resilience.
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
- Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children (enhanced DBS required).
- Flexibility to attend training or meetings outside regular hours.
