Shift Team Leader – Energy from Waste Plant
Location: Bicester, Oxford
Salary: £62,849 + £6,340 shift allowance + £2,654 living allowance (Total: £71,803)
Shifts: 12-hour day and night shifts on a 5-week rotating pattern (details below)
On-Call: 1 in 7 weekends

Are you an experienced supervisor or manager with a strong engineering background and a passion for operational excellence? We’re looking for a Shift Team Leader to take ownership of a cutting-edge energy recovery facility, ensuring it operates safely, efficiently, and to the highest environmental standards.

The Role

As Shift Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and supervise the Shift Team, managing the daily operation of the plant.
  • Strive for continual improvement while minimising health, safety, and environmental impacts.
  • Act as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), ensuring full compliance with Safe Systems of Work.
  • Supervise contractors and oversee site activities safely and effectively.
  • Work closely with management and engineering teams to optimise plant performance.
  • Conduct routine emergency, safety, and environmental drills, maintaining accurate records.
  • Investigate incidents objectively to prevent recurrence.
  • Promote strong communication across the site and ensure visitors and contractors are inducted into safety procedures.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven supervisory or management experience.
  • An engineering qualification (ONC/HNC or equivalent preferred).
  • A recognised safety qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH preferred).
  • Knowledge of power, navy, or process industries (e.g., HP steam, boilers, electrical generation, emissions).
  • Experience with Safe Systems of Work and safety documentation.
  • Excellent communication and team briefing skills.
  • A management or leadership qualification (desirable, not essential).

Shift Pattern

  • Monday–Tuesday: Days | Wednesday–Thursday: Nights
  • Wednesday–Thursday: Days | Friday–Sunday: Nights
  • Friday–Sunday: Days | Monday–Tuesday: Nights
  • Followed by 12 days off (rotating every 35 days)
