Flexible People are currently recruiting a Maintenance Engineer on behalf of a prestigious client based in Bicester.

This is a Monday to Friday role. The times are 0900am-1700pm.

The rate of pay is 22.00ph.

Purpose of the Position:

The primary objective is to ensure that the manufacturing and site facilities, equipment, and machinery at Fresh Direct are serviced & maintained to an agreed standard ensuring safe production and storage of foodstuffs, as determined by the Operations/Technical teams. In addition, key areas of responsibility include equipment commissioning, health & safety projects, engineering stock control and workshop organisation.

Key Activities & Responsibilities:

·Complete PPM (Planned preventative maintenance) routine inspections and checks on a weekly/monthly basis, and complete required paperwork.

·Perform mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance on equipment, machinery, and the facility.

·Prioritise effectively, and minimise machine downtime which could affect productivity

·Ensure the correct care and safe use guidelines are adhered too when using tools and maintenance equipment. For all maintenance activities tools and suitable PPE will be provided

·Working to and following the production systems, procedures, and policies, completing the necessary paperwork according to department (Fresh Direct, M and J Seafood, Fresh Kitchen)

·Assist Manager to continually develop and maintain SSoW (Safe Systems of Work) for all machinery & equipment.

·Complete risk assessments and method statement (RAMS) prior to commencing activities (either dynamic or generic)

·Liaise directly with suppliers/equipment vendors for ordering parts and new machinery.

·Involved in induction training for new employees explaining correct care and safe use of appropriate company equipment as outlined in SSoW or as directed by Manager

·Adherence to all relevant legislation (H&S, Hygiene, BRC, etc) and that any violations are reported to your line manager

·Being responsible for quality, legality and safety of the food manufactured or stored during/after performing maintenance activities

  • Complete any Engineering Work Request/Sign back form as required, ensuring the correct precautions are followed prior to undertaking maintenance activity, and the correct hygiene standards are met and signed off before handing area/equipment over to production
  • Proactive involvement in New Equipment Commissioning process
  • Recognition and understanding of ‘clean as you go” policies that are in place during maintenance activities
  • Ensure the engineering workshop is clean and presentable after use
  • Carry out monthly engineering inventory stock take and ensure workshop is suitably organised

·Have good observation and problem solving skills.

·Ability to follow written and spoken instructions.

·Must be able to commit to working out of hours and weekends as and when the job demands

·To work in a team based environment where all managers/employees work together for the good of the business

·Specific projects or activities as directed by the Engineering manager

Additional Activities & Responsibilities:

  • General site maintenance/repair work if reported by production/technical teams.
  • General plumbing repairs when required.

Management Responsibilities (Direct & Indirect):

  • Ensure the safety of all employees is maintained during any activity
  • Ensure all employees follow any restrictions you may put in place during maintenance activities
  • Ensure employees fully understand any training given

Key Attributes:

  • Sound understanding of Engineering principles both mechanical and electrical
  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 in a engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years Food Manufacturing experience (Desirable)
  • Electrical certification (18th Edition) (Desirable)
  • Strong Health and Safety understanding
  • Problem solving

  • Good communicator
  • Confident telephone manner
  • Experience of control system, PLCs, Inverters would be advantageous
