Plant & Maintenance Engineer
Up to £43,400 per annum | Permanent Mon–Fri, 08:30–16:30
A well-established UK life sciences manufacturer is looking to appoint a capable and versatile Plant and Maintenance Engineer to support the ongoing maintenance, reliability, and improvement of its specialised manufacturing and facility systems. Based near Bicester, this role sits within a compact engineering team and offers the opportunity to work across both production equipment and site infrastructure, including cleanrooms and regulated environments. This is a hands-on, multi-skilled role suited to an engineer who enjoys solving problems on both mechanical and electrical systems. You’ll carry out preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, support equipment upgrades, and contribute to system installations and calibrations.
We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in engineering principles and practical experience across both electrical and mechanical systems. Familiarity with pneumatics, HVAC, or water systems would be valuable, as would experience within GMP, ISO9001, or other regulated environments. You’ll need a methodical, right-first-time approach, attention to detail, and confidence liaising with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering a salary of up to £43,400 per annum, working standard daytime hours, with 25 days' annual leave (including a Christmas shutdown) plus public holidays. The role would suit someone comfortable working independently as well as within a close-knit team and willing to take on a degree of customer-facing responsibility as part of their remit.
A formal qualification in engineering (such as BTEC, ONC, HNC or equivalent) would be advantageous, however 3-5+ years industrial experience in the required technical skills as above is essential.
Essential:
- Recognised engineering qualification (e.g. BTEC, ONC, HNC, or equivalent)
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Experience working in a manufacturing, facilities, or regulated environment
- Confident with tools and workshop equipment (e.g. lathe, milling machine)
- Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to liaise across departments
Desirable:
- Knowledge of pneumatics, HVAC, or reverse osmosis systems
- Familiarity with ISO9001 or GMP-compliant environments
- Experience supporting external customer service or calibration work
