POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head of Conveyancing North East will play a critical leadership role within Sort Legal. This is a hands-on position, requiring a qualified Solicitor or Licensed Conveyancer with extensive experience (8+ years) in conveyancing and a proven track record in people and team management. The successful candidate will handle a small caseload while providing mentorship, training, and technical guidance to conveyancers in the North East.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, driving team competency, and maintaining the highest standards of client service across all cases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Management:

  • Oversee the Teesside conveyancing team, ensuring optimal performance and team development.
  • Deliver training programs and support the professional growth of all team members.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with SLAs, regulatory standards, and internal processes.
  • Act as the point of escalation for complex cases, providing clear, effective solutions.

Case Handling:

  • Maintain a small personal caseload to stay hands-on with operational challenges.
  • Sign off on key transactional milestones for sales and purchases, including title approvals, exchanges, and completions.
  • Ensure all cases adhere to regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., SRA, CLC Code of Conduct, Land Registry).

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Monitor team output to ensure the delivery of high-quality service.
  • Implement and enforce policies to reduce errors, delays, and complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with money laundering regulations, cyber security protocols, and data protection laws.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a senior point of contact for client and introducer queries or complaints.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to maintain excellent working relationships and service quality.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Develop and maintain a highly skilled conveyancing team within the North East.
  • Ensure all cases progress efficiently within agreed SLAs.
  • Minimize complaints and maintain high client satisfaction levels.
  • Enhance the competency and compliance of team members through effective leadership and training
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Licensed Conveyancer with extensive conveyancing experience.
  • Proven experience in team management and training.
  • Strong knowledge of freehold, leasehold, registered, and unregistered transactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of CLC and SRA regulations, Land Registry processes, and related compliance requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a volume conveyancing environment.
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with Case Management Systems.
