We are recruitng for a hands-on and ambitious Maintenance Engineertotake ownership of day-to-day machinery maintenance and safety compliance across the facility
This is a key role in ensuring the ongoing performance and legal compliance of themanufacturing equipment. The role offers excellent opportunities for personal development, including training in electrical engineering, health and safety compliance, and further technical qualifications.
Reporting to the Head of SHEQ, the successful candidate will work closely with production, logistics, and quality departments to support cross-functional operations. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical/electrical fault-finding skills who is ready to take the next step into leadership.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
As a maintenance engineer, you'll need to:
- Carry out routine maintenance, fault-finding, and repair on plant and production equipment.
- Conduct proactive and scheduled PUWER and LOLER compliance checks, ensuring all safety-critical systems are maintained.
- Support the development of a robust planned preventative maintenance (PPM) system.
- Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns and urgent maintenance requests.
- Keep detailed records of work carried out, defects identified, and parts used.
- Work with the production and logistics teams to minimise downtime and maintain equipment availability.
- Liaise with external engineers and suppliers when required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and documentation.
- Assist in accident investigations where maintenance-related issues are involved.
- Provide mentorship to fellow maintenance engineers and contribute to their development
You will normally be expected to work around 39 hours a week. However, it may be necessary to work overtime or unsociable hours, to coordinate the work with technicians and minimise production downtime.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician/engineer within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, with a proactive attitude to problem-solving.
- Knowledge and practical application of health and safety legislation, particularly PUWER, LOLER, DSEAR, and machinery safety.
- Hands-on approach, with willingness to take ownership of equipment performance and legal maintenance standards.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with production, logistics, and quality teams.
- IT-literate and capable of maintaining digital maintenance records.
- Relevant engineering qualifications (mechanical/electrical) preferred; further training will be provided.
