An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Senior Financial Accountant to take full ownership of statutory reporting and tax within a respected public sector organisation. This standalone role leads on year-end, group accounts and VAT and corporate tax processes. With strong systems in place, you’ll have the chance to drive improvements and bring a fresh perspective.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the year-end process and acting as the primary contact for external auditors
  • Preparing statutory accounts and ensuring compliance with IFRS-based FReM requirements
  • Managing key accounting adjustments, including pension valuations and intercompany journals
  • Leading on quarterly VAT returns and liaising with external tax agents for corporate tax compliance
  • Supporting government reporting and contributing to process reviews and improvements
  • Preparing financial accounts for a small international subsidiary and overseeing tax requirements in overseas territories

This hybrid role offers exceptional flexibility, with office attendance typically once a week and only increased during year-end. You’ll be based in Birmingham, with key audit activity centred in the London office. The successful candidate will:

  • Be CCAB-qualified (or equivalent) with experience leading on statutory reporting in a medium-sized organisation
  • Possess strong knowledge of VAT and corporation tax, ideally with partial exemption exposure
  • Have demonstrable experience of financial accounting and year-end delivery in the public, not-for-profit sector  
  • Be a confident systems user, with strong Excel skills
  • Bring a keen eye for detail, a continuous improvement mindset, and a proactive, enthusiastic approach
