Design Manager - 50m Birmingham Industrial Project

Are you a dynamic and experienced Design Manager with a passion for industrial construction?

I am working with a leading national main contractor, with an impressive turnover of 500m, specializing in delivering large-scale residential and industrial projects up to 200m. Due to continued growth and a new project win, they are looking for a skilled Design Manager to join their team and lead the design for a brand-new, 50m industrial scheme in Birmingham.

The Role:

As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for the full design management of this significant industrial development. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the design process from initial concept through to practical completion.

  • Coordinating and leading a team of external design consultants.

  • Ensuring all design information is accurate, well-coordinated, and delivered on time.

  • Reviewing and approving technical drawings and specifications.

  • Proactively identifying and resolving design issues to minimize delays and costs.

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for all design-related queries on-site.

  • Liaising with the client, project teams, and sub-contractors to ensure a smooth design flow.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will be a proactive and technically competent Design Manager with a strong background in industrial or commercial construction projects. You will possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant construction or design discipline.

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager on projects with a value of at least 20m.

  • A solid understanding of industrial construction processes, building regulations, and relevant standards.

  • Previous experience working for a main contractor is essential.

  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to read and interpret complex drawings.

  • Based in or willing to commute to the Birmingham area.
