Contract Senior/Principal Bridge Engineer Position
Outside IR35 / Chartership Required / 6 months

This role is based in Birmingham and you will be required on site every day.

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading design joint venture delivering a critical section of HS2. This is a key site-based role, offering the opportunity to work at the heart of one of the UK's most high-profile engineering programmes.

The Role
As part of the on-site team, you will represent the designer in supporting the successful delivery of complex structural works. Acting as the technical point of contact, you will:

  • Respond to bridge and structural technical queries from site teams.
  • Review and manage Field Change Requests (FCRs) and Non-Conformance Records (NCRs), ensuring all responses are clear, compliant, and aligned with design requirements and standards.
  • Attend Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) with the client's engineer, providing practical solutions to design and constructability challenges.
  • Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) to ensure compliance with project and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to design meetings with designers, delivery teams, and quality representatives.
  • Provide input into temporary works certificates where they may impact permanent works design.
  • Report regularly to the Technical Lead, updating on progress and any foreseeable technical issues.

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered with a recognised professional body e.g. ICE or IStructE
  • Strong knowledge of Eurocode structural design standards.
  • Demonstrable experience in bridge design and related structural works.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, designers, and clients.
