Childcare Solicitor

Rate: 45-55 per hour - Negotiable DOE

We have an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated Childcare Solicitor to join a local authority in the West Midlands. You will play a central role in delivering high-quality legal services to Children's Services, focusing on childcare and related education matters.

This is a frontline role where you will be trusted to handle a complex and varied childcare caseload, conduct legal proceedings in the Family Court, High Court and County Court, and personally undertake advocacy on contested matters, including multi-day hearings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and conduct complex childcare and related education legal matters, ensuring compliance with the statutory 26-week timescale.
  • Act as advocate in courts and tribunals, undertaking contested hearings and managing multi-day cases.
  • Provide clear, robust legal advice to Children's Services and WCF, including on adoption, DOL/LPS, and judicial review claims.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies, policies, and service improvements within the Childcare Team.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister, entitled to practise in England.
  • Substantial experience of managing a complex childcare caseload, including adoption, DOL/LPS, and child protection matters within a local authority setting.
  • Strong advocacy skills with proven ability to undertake contested and multi-day hearings.
  • Up-to-date, expert knowledge of childcare legislation, adoption law, public law principles, and local government law.
