Principal Designer

Location: Birmingham

Salary: 45-60,000 (DOE)

A respected architectural practice in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced and proactive CDM Principal Designer to support the development of its expanding CDM team. The position offers the opportunity to take a leading role within a growing department while contributing to a varied mix of local and national public and private sector projects.

Main Duties
* Deliver CDM Principal Designer and Health & Safety advisory services across all work stages
* Manage and coordinate multiple projects at once
* Identify construction risks and apply prevention-based mitigation strategies
* Work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and clients to embed H&S principles throughout each project
* Prepare and maintain CDM documentation, reports, meeting notes, design reviews and general administrative tasks
* Conduct H&S design reviews during design development and construction phases
* Maintain clear and consistent communication with all duty holders
* Produce and manage Health & Safety Files for each project

Required Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a construction or occupational health and safety discipline, with relevant CDM/H&S experience
* Professional construction qualification such as MCIOB, MCIAT, or equivalent experience
* Health and safety qualification such as Chartered IOSH and/or Certified or Incorporated APS membership
* Minimum NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
* Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations
* Background in design or construction management, including leading design teams
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Previous consultancy experience
