Tradewind Recruitment Birmingham are looking for a skilled and dedicated Phonics Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team working in a primary school in Selly Oak. As a Phonics Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and students to deliver effective phonics interventions and support students' literacy development. You will play a critical role in helping students build strong phonics skills, which are fundamental to their reading and writing abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement phonics lessons and activities that are aligned with curriculum standards and best practices.
  • Provide small-group or one-on-one phonics instruction to students who need additional support or intervention, using evidence-based strategies.
  • Assist with assessing and monitoring students' phonics skills through informal observations and formal assessments.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and parents on students' progress in phonics and collaborate with the team to develop strategies to address individual student needs.
  • Utilise instructional materials and resources effectively to engage students in phonics instruction, including manipulatives, technology, and other multi-sensory approaches.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated to develop their phonics skills.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in a related subject such as childcare, education or health and social care
  • Previous experience in a teaching assistant or similar role
  • The ability to work flexibly and adapt to different year groups and subjects
  • A strong commitment to supporting the needs of all students, including those with SEN
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering phonics instruction to students, preferably in a school or educational setting.
