Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEND & Behaviour Support)

At Team Educate we are working closely with a primary school in the Birmingham area who are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support for a primary-aged child with special educational needs and challenging behaviour.

As a specialist teaching assistant, your role will be on a 1:1 basis, however you will be supported throughout the role by senior members of staff and the school’s leadership team. Training will also be provided prior to starting the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support for a child with SEN, adapting teaching and learning strategies to meet their specific needs.
  • Implement and follow EHCP targets and behaviour management strategies under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Develop a strong, trusting relationship with the child to encourage confidence and independence.
  • Assist with personal care and sensory needs if required.
  • Create a calm, structured, and inclusive environment that promotes positive learning experiences.

Required Experience:

  • Previous experience (preferably 3+ years) supporting children with SEN and challenging behaviour, ideally in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language Difficulties, and SEMH needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, NVQ, or equivalent) is desirable.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.

The Role:

  • Position: Specialist Autism Tutor
  • Duration: Monday to Friday 08:30-15:30 - Term time only
  • Pay Rate: £95-£105 per day
