The successful applicant will have had a successful VMware-to-Proxmox migration or a very similar proven track record. They will require a blend of virtualisation expertise, Linux fluency, and practical migration experience.- £375 - £425 p/d Inside IR35- Hybrid working (Birmingham based)Core Technical Skills1. Strong Virtualisation Background- Deep understanding of VMware vSphere/ESXi environments, including VM configuration, storage, and networking.- Familiarity with Proxmox VE architecture, including clustering, storage models, and native backup tools like Proxmox Backup Server.2. Linux Systems Administration- Proxmox is Debian-based, so comfort with Linux CLI, shell scripting, and system services is essential.- Ability to troubleshoot boot issues, kernel modules, and hardware compatibility.3. Migration Tooling & Disk Conversion- Experience with converting VMDK to QCOW2 or RAW formats.- Familiarity with tools like qemu-img, virt-v2v, or Proxmox's built-in import wizard- Equally able to build new Windows 2019 Servers rebuilding services and systems where needed.4. Networking & Firewall Configuration- Understanding of virtual bridges, VLANs, and Proxmox's firewall model.- Ability to replicate VMware's virtual networking setup in Proxmox.5. Backup & Recovery Planning- Knowledge of backup strategies pre- and post-migration.- Experience with tools like Nakivo (which supports both VMware and Proxmox) or Proxmox Backup Server.Soft Skills & Project Readiness6. Pre-Migration Planning- Ability to map out dependencies, assess VM compatibility, and plan for downtime.- Use Monday.com to manage project.- Familiarity with licencing implications and vendor support transitions (e.g. from VMware to open-source Proxmox).7.
