1:1 Teaching Assistant - SEMH School Trust - Central Birmingham (Multiple Locations)

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning? Long Term Futures is working in partnership with a trust of specialist SEMH schools in central Birmingham to recruit experienced and resilient Teaching Assistants. These schools support students aged 11-16 who have social, emotional, and behavioural needs, many of whom require 1:1 support to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience of working with challenging behaviours who is committed to making a meaningful difference in a supportive, structured environment.

Your Role

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs, helping them engage with learning

  • Use de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe, calm environment

  • Build trust and strong relationships to encourage confidence, resilience, and personal growth

  • Support pupils with social and emotional development through tailored activities and mentoring

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to deliver joined-up support

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour - essential

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to managing difficult situations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly

  • Confidence in supporting students who may display high levels of anxiety or emotional dysregulation

  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is an advantage, but experience and the right attitude are what really matter
