Subcontractor - Ethernet Cabling & Network Installation (Ad-Hoc Work)


Location: West Midlands (Aldridge, Halesowen, Shrewsbury, Greater Birmingham) OR North Wales (Shotton)
Engagement Type: Subcontractor - Ad-Hoc, On Demand work

My client, a well-established IT and Telecoms consultancy services provider, is currently seeking experienced subcontract engineers to support on-site network infrastructure installations on an ad-hoc basis. Work will be scheduled as required and may involve both permanent premises and temporary setups such as porta cabins.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to a self-sufficient, proactive contractor with strong experience in data cabling and a solid understanding of basic networking and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, run, and terminate Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet cabling in various environments.
  • Mount and configure network cabinets, patch panels, switches, and routers.
  • Install and position Wi-Fi Access Points in line with layout plans.
  • Perform cable testing, labelling, and complete documentation of works.
  • Carry out basic electrical wiring, including sockets, plugs, and junction boxes.
  • Work in coordination with IT and electrical teams to ensure full system functionality.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health and safety protocols, particularly when working at height or using access platforms.

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Valid IPAF Licence (for use of MEWPs, such as scissor lifts or boom lifts)
  • Proven experience with:
    • Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet cabling
    • Cable termination and testing
    • Network cabinet, router, and switch installation
    • Mounting/configuring wireless access points
  • Basic electrical skills - capable of safely wiring junction boxes and sockets
  • Ability to work from layout diagrams and complete project documentation
  • Own tools and PPE
  • Own transport - essential for reaching sites across the listed areas

Desirable Qualifications:

  • CompTIA Network+ or similar networking qualification
  • Familiarity with network testing tools (e.g., Fluke, LAN testers)
  • ECS Card (optional)
