Penguin Recruitment is pleased to present a fantastic Graduate Town Planner opportunity in Birmingham!

My client is a leading land promotion company dedicated to securing planning permissions for high-quality, sustainable developments across the UK. The dynamic team works closely with landowners, communities, and local authorities to unlock land opportunities and deliver much-needed housing and infrastructure.

The Role:As a Graduate Town Planner, you will support the Planning team in managing a wide variety of residential and mixed-use development projects through the planning process. You will be involved in site appraisals, planning research, preparing planning applications, and assisting with appeals. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile projects and develop a strong foundation in planning and land promotion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct planning research and assist in the preparation of site assessments.
  • Support the preparation, submission, and negotiation of planning applications.
  • Attend meetings with local authorities, stakeholders, and landowners.
  • Monitor and interpret local planning policies, housing land supply positions, and development plans.
  • Prepare and present reports and briefing notes for internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to community consultation events and public engagement strategies.
  • Assist with planning appeals, including preparation of appeal documentation.
  • Support the team in identifying new land opportunities.

Candidate Requirement:

  • A degree (or expected degree) in Town Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or a related field (RTPI accredited preferred).
  • Eligibility for RTPI Licentiate membership (or working towards).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently when required.
  • A genuine passion for the built environment and a desire to make a positive impact.
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred).
