Criminal and Prosecutions Specialist Needed!

- flexible depending upon experience.

We have been asked to help one of our main clients recruit a locum criminal and prosecutions lawyer. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced criminal specialist to join a large in-house public sector team. You will work within the Legal and Governance directorate, managing your own cases and the conduct of all related advocacy.

The successful candidate shall undertake all matters relating to criminal prosecutions. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Handling a criminal caseload from start to finish. Cases may include food hygiene and safety prosecutions, licencing matters, taxi licences, and environmental criminal matters
  • Private Hire Taxi Appeal hearings
  • Drafting summons, indictments, case summaries. and disclosure requests
  • Attending Magistrates Court, committees, and meetings, including dealing with the Court lists

The role will be worked on a hybrid basis, with the successful candidate attending court hearings as and when necessary in the Birmingham area. The ideal candidate will have experience in licensing and contentious regulatory matters across the Public Sector. However, lawyers with private practice experience seeking to move into the public sphere are encouraged to apply. This would be the ideal opportunity for a criminal solicitor with a private practice background to move into a new sector and gain a 360 degree view of their specialist area of the Law.

***Applicants must be able to travel to court in central Birmingham on a weekly basis***

This is a rare opportunity to join a large in-house team, and a great opportunity for an already experienced regulatory expert to build on their CV and take the lead on important matters.
