Role Overview

The Head of Buying and Merchandising will be responsible for leading the Commercial Team and developing and implementing strategic product and commercial initiatives within this high growth e-commerce retailer. The role focuses on optimising product availability, pricing and efficiency to enhance customer satisfaction and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the product and commercial functions in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Lead the Product & Commercial Team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to inform strategic decisions and identify new opportunities for product offerings.
  • Oversee the end-to-end product buying process, ensuring alignment with market goals and customer demand.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from sourcing to sales, optimising inventory levels at SKU and category levels.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies by territory that maximise profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and partners to ensure efficient supply chain management.
  • Champion commercial awareness across the business, using data and market insights to drive informed decision-making.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in a senior buying and merchandising role within a retailer OR a commodity trading role at a manufacturer
  • Strong understanding of pricing strategies and inventory management.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data modelling, with the ability to analyse complex data sets effectively.
  • Experience in managing supplier relationships and negotiating terms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams effectively.
