Recruitment are delighted to exclusively present an exceptional opportunity for a Logistics & Transport Manager to join our client, a frontrunner in the Food Manufacturing industry based in Birmingham. This role is a chance to help grow operations, co-ordinate and optimise transportation across the business.

Position: Logistics & Transport Manager

Location: Birmingham (B37)

Reports To: Financial Controller

Salary: Upto £55,000 + KPI Bonus

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8 30am to 4 30pm, Friday 8 30am to 2 00pm (potential home working 1 day per week)

Your Role

You will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all transportation activities across the supply chain. This role will ensure efficient scheduling of livestock transport, liaising between internal teams (procurement, rearing, finishing, and supply chain planning), and maintain high standards of operational efficiency, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Transport & Logistics Coordination

  • Plan, book, and manage transport for livestock movements, ensuring efficiency and adherence to schedules.
  • Optimise logistics planning to minimise costs while maintaining animal welfare standards and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and implement transport contingency plans to handle delays or disruptions.
  • Work closely with transport providers to negotiate rates, contracts, and service-level agreements.

Internal Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key liaison between procurement, rearing farms, finishing farms, and supply chain teams to ensure transport aligns with operational needs.
  • Provide real-time updates on transport schedules, delays, and any issues affecting supply chain performance.
  • Maintain strong communication with drivers and hauliers, ensuring clear expectations and compliance with company policies.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all transportation activities comply with Red Tractor policy, animal welfare regulations, DEFRA guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain accurate transport records, including vehicle logs, health and safety checks, and compliance documentation.
  • Implement and monitor biosecurity measures for transport to protect livestock health.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Track key logistics KPIs (cost per journey, efficiency rates, on-time performance) and implement improvements where needed.
  • Identify and implement innovative transport solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  • Work collaboratively with data and operations teams to improve transport planning and forecasting.

Key Skills

You will have experience in managing scheduling, route planning and supplier negotiations with the ability to communicate effectively between internal departments and external suppliers. The ability to handle logistic challenges and last minute changes, regulatory compliance and risk mitigation with an understanding of cost control, contract negotiation and transport budget management within a fast paced environment.

Good understanding of UK transport regulations, together with proficiency in logistics management software, excel models and data tracking tools are essential.

Experience within an agricultural, livestock or food environment is preferred but not essential as training will be given. You must have a full UK Driver’s License.
