Job Title: Ocean Import & Export / Sea Freight Coordinator
Hours: 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday
Location: South Birmingham

SEA/OCEAN FREIGHT EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED

Role Overview

An expanding company is seeking an organised, experienced, and customer-focused Ocean Import & Export / Sea Freight Coordinator to join its growing team.

The primary focus of the role is sea freight import and export operations, with the opportunity to gain exposure to air freight and road freight as part of a wider multimodal offering. 

This position suits an individual with strong sea freight knowledge who is keen to broaden their logistics expertise, work collaboratively with internal teams, and deliver a high level of service to customers, partners, and suppliers.

The role also includes a light commercial element, involving outbound customer calls to support and grow multimodal services.

Key Responsibilities Operational Responsibilities
  • Manage sea freight import and export files from quotation through to final delivery.

  • Support air freight and road freight bookings (training provided).

  • Communicate effectively with customers, overseas agents, suppliers, and internal teams.

  • Arrange customs clearance, documentation, and delivery bookings.

  • Resolve operational issues promptly and professionally.

  • Ensure files are accurately costed, invoiced, and kept fully up to date.

  • Monitor customer and supplier credit limits in line with internal guidelines.

  • Complete additional operational tasks as required by the line manager.

Commercial Responsibilities
  • Make outbound calls to existing and prospective customers.

  • Build strong, long-term relationships through confident and professional communication.

  • Follow up on quotations, leads, and new business opportunities.

  • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable multimodal freight solutions.

  • Identify opportunities that contribute to wider commercial growth.

  • Work closely with sales and operations teams to support customer development.

Outbound calls are consultative rather than high-pressure, with a focus on adding value, understanding customer needs, and supporting multimodal growth.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in sea freight operations.

  • Strong understanding of international forwarding processes.

  • Experience with customs clearance procedures.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Air freight or road freight experience is advantageous but not essential (training provided).
