Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our engineering team at Wieland. This role blends responsibilities of a Mechanical Maintenance Technician and an Annealing Engineer, offering a varied and challenging opportunity in a busy industrial environment. The role is primarily a 40-hour day shift, with flexible start and finish times: 8:00-17:00, 8:30-17:30, 7:00-16:00 or 7:30-16:30. You will also provide occasional cover on a 4 on / 4 off rota to support the team during holidays or sickness.

Main Duties

  • Oversee annealing maintenance and processes, liaising with contractors and team members to ensure equipment operates efficiently.
  • Follow and uphold all company Health, Safety & Environmental standards, risk assessments, and SOPs.
  • Deliver practical mechanical support for annealing operations and other production lines.
  • Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and TPM tasks, responding promptly to equipment faults.
  • Monitor machinery performance and identify opportunities for reliability improvements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime.
  • Mentor and support apprentices, helping develop their technical skills.
  • Manage spare parts stock and supervise contractors, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Contribute technical insight to projects, upgrades, and new equipment installations.

Requirements

  • Qualified in Mechanical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in industrial maintenance within medium to heavy industry.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, fluid power systems, fabrication, and workshop practices.
  • Ability to read and work from mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
  • Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling machinery is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Confident working alone or within a team, including providing cover on 4 on / 4 off shifts when required.
