SF Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Payroll Specialist for a long term contract opportunity based in Birmingham City Centre.

Key Responsibilities :

  • End-to-end processing of monthly payroll for 300+ employees
  • Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time in line with statutory requirements
  • Processing starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, and deductions
  • Managing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SHPP
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, and payroll deadlines
  • Managing pension auto-enrolment, opt-ins/opt-outs, and pension submissions
  • Processing payroll journals and reconciling payroll control accounts
  • Handling payroll queries from employees in a professional and confidential manner
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers, and other external bodies when required
  • Supporting payroll audits and year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds (if applicable)
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee data in line with GDPR


Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a payroll position (in-house or bureau)
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
  • Experience processing payroll for a medium to large employee base
  • Familiarity with payroll systems
  • Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive information
  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables desirable)
