We are a well-established metal recycling plant in Birmingham, specialising in non-ferrous metals. We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of service, safety, and operational efficiency. Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a skilled and experienced Non-Ferrous Metal Scale Operator to join our team and contribute to the success of our operations.

Position Overview:
As a Non-Ferrous Metal Scale Operator, you will be responsible for operating the scales, assessing materials brought to site, dealing with customers, and ensuring that all yard processes are adhered to correctly. The role involves the accurate weighing and classification of non-ferrous metals, maintaining a smooth and efficient operation while providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain scales for the accurate weighing of materials.

  • Assess and classify non-ferrous metals brought to site, ensuring they are correctly graded according to quality and type.

  • Deal directly with customers, assisting with the drop-off of materials and providing information about the recycling process.

  • Ensure all materials are processed following the company's quality standards and regulatory guidelines.

  • Record all transactions and maintain accurate logs of materials received, including weight, type, and customer details.

  • Ensure the yard is kept clean and organized, complying with health and safety regulations.

  • Support the yard team in daily operational tasks and assist with sorting materials when necessary.

  • Monitor the quality of incoming materials and report any discrepancies or concerns to management.

  • Assist with inventory control and ensure proper handling of all materials.

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including those related to safety and environmental compliance.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, particularly within a metal recycling environment.

  • Solid knowledge of non-ferrous metals and their grades (e.g., aluminium, copper, brass, etc.).

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling materials and processing transactions.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • A strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a recycling or industrial setting.

  • Basic computer skills for logging and recording data.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience operating scales in a similar recycling or waste management environment.

  • Knowledge of industry standards for the grading of non-ferrous metals.

  • Forklift or other yard machinery experience (although not essential).
