Learning Support Assistant – Specialist SEND Provision (Birmingham)
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a dedicated specialist School in the South Birmingham area. This role offers the opportunity to support children and young people with SEND, SEMH, and a variety of additional needs. You will be working closely with teaching staff to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every pupil can thrive.
This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting pupils with special educational needs, either in schools or alternative provisions. Whether you are an experienced LSA or looking to build your career in education, this setting will provide structured support and ongoing professional development.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEND and/or SEMH
- Assist the class teacher with planning and adapting learning activities
- Support the development of pupils’ communication, social, and emotional skills
- Promote a calm and supportive classroom environment
- Help implement strategies in line with pupils’ EHCPs
- Support positive behaviour management

- Has relevant experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or similar)
- Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and a child-centred approach
- Is confident working with pupils with autism, SEND or SEMH needs
- Can remain calm under pressure and support behaviour in a positive, restorative way
- Is reliable, adaptable, and works well within a team
