If you're a vocational assessor who's starting to feel the weight of paperwork and endless compliancebut still loves working directly with learnersthis could be your next move.
This isnt your standard assessing role. Youll be working with young people who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them take their first steps into paid employment. Its part classroom, part job coaching, and fully rewarding.
Youll be part of a small and passionate team delivering a supported internship programme based in central Birmingham. Theres a mix of teaching (functional skills and employability) and workplace support. That could mean helping a
learner understand a task on a hospital ward one day, and then adapting a classroom session the next to build their confidence or close a skills gap youve seen.
Whats different about this role?
Youre not assessing to a frameworkyoure supporting real progress in real time. Youll see the difference youre making every single day, whether its a young person mastering a new task, building confidence, or finally getting their first job offer.
You'll start with a 4-month supported induction, shadowing the current tutor across the week. That usually looks like:
- 1 day in the classroom
- 3 days on-site with learners at a local hospital
- 1 day for planning and prep
What do you need?
- If youve got a Level 5 teaching qualification (like QTS, PGCE, DTLLS) from any background, youre good to go (starting salary at £30k)
- Or if youre at Level 3 (AET/PTLLS) and have strong delivery experience (especially in functional skills), thats fine toothe charity will support you to gain your Level 5 after 6 months (starting salary at £28k)
