We are currently seeking compassionate, dedicated, and skilled SEN Teaching Assistants to join our inclusive primary school in Stechford, Birmingham. Role Overview:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work closely with class teachers to support children with a wide range of needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and speech and language challenges.

  • Help create a calm, safe, and supportive classroom environment.

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 or small group interventions and provide behaviour and emotional support.

  • Support students in developing confidence, independence, and positive social skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide targeted 1:1 or group support to students with SEN and SEMH.

  • Help implement learning and behavioural strategies tailored to individual needs.

  • Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour reinforcement.

  • Contribute to monitoring student progress and updating SEND records and reports.

  • Build supportive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and well-being.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCO, and external specialists.

Key Requirements:
  • Experience working with children with SEND, especially SEMH, autism, ADHD, or learning difficulties.

  • Relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare or learning support (preferred but not essential).

  • Understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Confidence in supporting speech, language, and social development.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude.

Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Familiarity with a range of SEND conditions.

  • Experience working with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Awareness of current SEND legislation and best practice.

  • Experience with communication support tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS).

  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and SEN learning resources.
