SEN Chef - Cook & Teach at a Specialist SEN College

Academics are currently working on behalf of a well-regarded specialist SEN college that is seeking an experienced and passionate SEN Chef. This is a unique dual-role position for someone who can not only cook high-quality meals but also engage with and teach students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a supportive educational environment.

As the SEN Chef, you will play a vital role in both the kitchen and the classroom. You'll be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and leading culinary sessions that help students develop essential life skills. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about sharing their love of food while also making a real difference in the lives of young people with a range of learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals daily for staff and students, adhering to dietary and allergy requirements.
  • Plan and deliver practical cookery lessons tailored to students with SEN.
  • Work closely with teaching and support staff to adapt lessons to meet individual learning plans.
  • Encourage student participation in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen hygiene.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive and inspiring learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a chef.
  • Proven experience teaching or working with SEN children.
  • Strong understanding of various SEN including autism, ADHD, and moderate learning difficulties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students.
  • A relevant teaching or training qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
