Company Overview

We are a well-established and growing electrical subcontractor operating throughout Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. We deliver high-quality electrical installations across commercial, industrial, residential, and public sector projects. Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint an Electrical Estimator with strong technical knowledge and site experience, capable of supporting the business through accurate tendering and project surveying.







Role Overview

The Electrical Estimator / Surveyor will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical estimates while also carrying out site surveys and assisting with project handovers. The role will suit someone with strong estimating experience who is comfortable visiting sites, reviewing drawings, liaising with clients, and supporting the contracts team during pre-construction and delivery stages.







Key Responsibilities



Estimating & Tendering

  • Prepare detailed electrical estimates for projects ranging from small works to large-scale contracts

  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documents

  • Carry out take-offs for materials, labour, plant, and preliminaries

  • Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations

  • Prepare tender submissions, clarifications, and value engineering options

  • Work closely with senior management and contracts team during bid reviews







Surveying & Pre-Construction Support

  • Attend site visits and carry out detailed surveys to assess scope, access, and constraints

  • Identify risks, opportunities, and potential variations at tender stage

  • Assist with value engineering and alternative design proposals

  • Support project handovers from estimating to contracts management







Commercial & Technical Support

  • Assist with pricing of variations and additional works during live projects

  • Provide technical support to contracts managers and site teams as required

  • Maintain estimating databases, cost plans, and pricing schedules

  • Keep up to date with material prices, labour rates, and industry trends







Client & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Liaise with clients, main contractors, consultants, and suppliers

  • Attend tender interviews and pre-contract meetings where required

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships







Skills & Experience Required







Essential

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within an electrical subcontractor environment

  • Strong understanding of electrical installations and regulations (BS 7671)

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  • Experience carrying out site surveys and pre-construction assessments

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software

  • Full UK driving licence







Desirable

  • Experience estimating commercial, industrial, or residential projects

  • Knowledge of design & build contracts

  • Experience using estimating software (e.g. Conquest, ECA, Trimble, or similar)

  • NICEIC Qualified Supervisor or equivalent

  • HNC / HND or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or Building Services
