Teaching Assistant - Year 5 SEMH Support

Location: Rubery, Birmingham, B45
Weekly Rate: 460 - 500 per week
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full Time - 8:30am to 3:30pm (Term Time Only)
Contract: Long Term with potential for Permanent

Long Term Futures are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Rubery (B45) who are seeking a General Classroom Teaching Assistant to join their Year 5 team. The role involves supporting a small group of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, while also assisting across the wider classroom.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone confident, patient, and resilient who enjoys helping children develop both academically and emotionally. The school has a caring ethos and values staff who can bring positivity, structure, and consistency to the classroom.



The Role:

  • Provide focused support to a small group of Year 5 pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs

  • Work closely with the class teacher to implement behaviour strategies and support learning

  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and teamwork within the group

  • Deliver targeted learning breaks and interventions to help pupils self-regulate

  • Support whole-class activities and ensure all pupils can access learning

  • Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment



The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or challenging behaviour

  • Confident, empathetic, and able to build strong relationships with pupils

  • Resilient, proactive, and adaptable within a classroom setting

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) preferred

  • Must hold a valid DBS and provide two satisfactory references
