Are you a tutor looking for something a little different to traditional education? You'll be joining a charity that supports young people with SEN support needs as they transition into employment. They’ve got some fantastic employers on board who really get it. The young people take part in a mix of classroom-based study (covering functional skills and employability) and hands-on work experience. What makes this role unique is that you'll be combining teaching with in-work support. That means being right there with them in the workplace, helping with reasonable adjustments, understanding tasks, performing duties, and liaising with employers. Any gaps or learning needs identified in the workplace can then be tackled back in the classroom with practical, tailored delivery. When you first join, you’ll spend the first four months shadowing and working alongside the current tutor. Typically, that’ll mean one day in the classroom, three days supporting learners at their work placements (at a large hospital), and one day for planning.  You’ll be working with a small cohort of 6–10 learners, all based in central Birmingham. To apply for this role, you’ll need either:
  • A Level 5 teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, DTLLS, etc.) from any teaching background, along with a desire to support SEN learners in a work-based settingor
  • A Level 3 teaching qualification (AET/PTLLS) plus solid teaching experience, ideally in functional skills. If so, the charity will fund your Level 5 qualification after six months.
Please note: being a driver is essential for this role. You’ll also need to be flexible—the balance between teaching and job coaching can shift depending on which employer(s) you're working with each academic year (though the overall model always aligns with DFN Project Search supported internships). How to apply:Please apply via this advert, we aim to respond to everyone.
