We are working with a fast-growing, forward-thinking accountancy firm in Bishops Stortford, known for their hands-on, strategic support to a broad and loyal client base. As they continue to expand, they are looking for a dynamic individual to join the team in a key backfill role supporting a busy portfolio, someone who’s comfortable going beyond the basics and adding real commercial value.
What You’ll Be DoingThis isn’t just another transactional role. You’ll act as a day-to-day finance partner for multiple clients — handling the core accounting processes while also helping to surface insights that support decision-making, planning and business growth.
- Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for your own client portfolio
- Prepare and submit VAT returns (across standard & flat rate schemes)
- Reconcile bank accounts and key ledgers with precision
- Assist in preparing management accounts and year-end packs
- Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries and help streamline their systems
- Use cloud-based software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) to manage real-time data
- Optional: support payroll processing depending on experience
- A natural relationship-builder with at least 2 years’ accounting/bookkeeping experience (practice background a bonus)
- Someone who enjoys variety, isn’t fazed by deadlines, and takes pride in producing accurate, clean work
- Confident using Xero, QuickBooks, Sage etc. — and quick to learn new tech
- A proactive mindset — spotting anomalies, raising ideas, helping clients understand their numbers
- Ideally AAT-qualified or working towards (but experience matters more than letters here)
