We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Yard Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard at our clients’ busy builders merchant branch.You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and customer-focused handling of building materials and goods in and out of the yard. This role involves leading a team of yard operatives, maintaining stock accuracy, ensuring health and safety compliance and delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.  Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the yard team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Oversee the receipt, storage and dispatch of building materials.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and carry out regular stock checks.
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are followed at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised yard environment.
  • Operate forklifts.
  • Provide outstanding customer service by assisting customers in the yard and loading materials safely.
  • Coordinate deliveries and collections with the transport team.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching and training where needed.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve delivery or stock issues.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally in a builders merchant environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of building materials and industry products is highly desirable.
  • Valid forklift license
  • Strong focus on health and safety compliance.
