Quality & Compliance Manager
Location: County Durham
Hybrid - home/office/site
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + Car Allowance or Company Car
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality & Compliance Manager to join a forward-thinking and fast-paced infrastructure services provider delivering high-profile national projects. With a strong focus on compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement, this role will be pivotal in supporting a growing operational landscape, predominantly serving a key client.
Reporting directly to the Head of HSEQT, you'll be responsible for owning and evolving the business's Quality Management System, driving internal audits, and ensuring the company meets ISO standards across multiple streetworks disciplines - including street lighting, signage, and traffic signals. With 70% of your week focused on projects governed by the client, the remaining 30% will involve supporting wider business activities, ensuring best practice is shared across all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 and industry best practices.
- Lead internal and external audits and certification processes, managing all necessary documentation.
- Support bid and pre-construction processes with quality input, records, and evidence tracking.
- Work closely with site teams to monitor installation quality - from excavation to equipment placement.
- Lead on LEAN methodology adoption across the business, driving a continuous improvement culture.
- Investigate and resolve non-conformances; develop corrective and preventative actions.
- Produce monthly performance reports, track KPIs, and support strategic quality reviews.
- Collaborate across departments and with the newly appointed Team Administrator to ensure project records, certifications, and compliance documents are consistently accurate and up to date.
- Influence and contribute to client meetings, offering insight on quality performance and improvements.
- Input into Constructionline and bid documentation with up-to-date audit and compliance data.
This role suits someone highly organised, proactive, and self-driven - someone who can easily switch from managing quality on a major project to supporting colleagues on another. You'll need strong plate-spinning skills, and a natural ability to lead without micromanagement.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a quality or compliance role, ideally within construction, civil engineering, highways, or infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of quality assurance practices, document control, and ISO standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, workstreams, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Familiarity with LEAN, Six Sigma, or Green Belt methodologies.
- Experience or working knowledge of streetworks (lighting columns, excavation, signals) is highly desirable - or strong intuition to ask the right questions and extract key details from stakeholders.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and managing digital documentation.
- Experience handling audit trails, compliance reporting, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications (Ideal but not all essential):
- Level 4 NVQ in Quality Management or Quality Practitioner
- Six Sigma / Green Belt certification
- Awareness of CDM Regulations and HERS compliance is an advantage
- Project management exposure or experience dealing with defects/snagging processes
This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal role with a national impact, in a business that values autonomy, quality, and progression.
